A bit about me:

Hi! I'm Samwise (Sam) Castille (He/It). I'm a non-binary, trans-masculine, neurodiverse electrologist, specializing in gender-affirming hair removal for the transgender and PCOS communities. I know how important it is for us to realize the versions of ourselves that live in our heads and hearts. I am also familiar with the complications one can encounter with gender-affirming surgeries where sufficient hair removal has not been completed.

I want to help you enjoy your life more, by removing the source of your hair-related dysphoria (or even just annoyance).

I'm an immigrant from the United States (Indiana, if you know her), and live in Berlin with my gorgeous wife and our two cats. I currently only speak English, though I am working on learning Deutsch in my spare time. I can't wait to meet you!

How does electrolysis work?

Well, basically:

With its pinpoint accuracy within the follicle, a skilled practitioner can minimize damage caused to skin surrounding a hair follicle, which might take place in larger-area hair-removal techniques.

A hair follicle's production relies on a crucial pair of sources, from which blood and stem cells are supplied, to support growth.

During a hair and follicle's best window for treatment (the "anagen" growth phase), the hair is attached to these sources, growing and thriving.

Electrolysis hair removal treatment involves insertion of a tiny metal filament into an anagen-phase hair follicle to "cut off" these sources at the root of the hair, using focused electrical current.

This focused, meticulous method of treatment can take months, to years in order to clear a large, dense area of hair, with regularly scheduled treatments.

My Professional Approach:

As someone who has received electrolysis hair removal treatment (and as a Transgender person, married to another Transgender person), I am well aware of what it feels like to be "under the needle", and (more broadly) how difficult it is to move around in a global society which seems bent on making life harder for people like us.

The majority of my electrolysis colleagues, both here and abroad, have made the destruction of the hair follicle their number one priority during treatment. This makes sense; It's why you're here, right? I see and understand the validity of this approach, and make no value assessment one way or the other. They are not causing undue damage to your skin, but it HURTS.

To be clear: all effective electrolysis treatment hurts.

My first priority is to make sure that you, in my chair, feel cared for. My aim is to deliver the hair removal results you've come for, but with the lightest possible use of electrical current, minimizing the pain you have to endure during treatment. I want to reduce the physical trauma associated with gender-affirming care.

This is why, during the course of your treatment appointment, we may spend more time than other electrologists would, "playing with the levels" and testing hairs to see if they're ready. I'm moving in TINY increments, to reduce overall pain. I'm trying not to hurt you more than I have to, while destroying these villainous hair follicles. Thank you in advance for your patience!
